People today are wedded with the mobile phone and the reason that they give is to be in touch with their family and friends constantly. Losing mobile contact with children, parents, colleagues and even customers can be worrying and stressful experience for many.  But is it only this or there is some emotional stress behind the veil of being in touch constantly. But if you are one and are stressful if your mobile is out of charge or credit, then you are not alone. The mania is catching up and to avoid nomophobia keep your mobile credits topped up and ensure that you carry your charger wherever you go such that it does not run out of battery. You can also carry a pre-paid phonecard to make emergency calls if your mobile is lost, stolen or broken. Additionally, keep the contact numbers of your immediate family members in record, as your handset might get lost or stolen.

Above all, try keeping your mobile phone switched off for some time so that you can liberate yourself from the shackles of nomophobia

Microsoft to launch OneApp for not smartphones

Posted on 11 August 2010 by Sadhan

Microsoft to launch OneApp for not smartphones

It is iPhone or Blackberry, the dream smartphone for most where one can sent a tweet; check the important emails as well make a purchase while listening to the latest music tunes. But a distant dream to owe such a high-end phone for lot many people. There is an ever increasing market potential for mobile phone usage in the emerging market economies. According to Gartner, the mobile-phone usage in India alone is going to take a quantum leap from usage of 38.7 percent in 2009 to almost 63.5 percent in 2013.

oneappMicrosoft, the leading software giant has been quick to tap this huge market potential. And read on to know what they are going to launch in two weeks time from now.

Microsoft has developed software called OneApp that will allow users with non-smartphone devices to send a message in facebook and check their emails. This software has been the result of research by Microsoft Unlimited Potential Group that uses their brain to bring out revolutionary ideas and products for poor people living in the developing countries.

So, how much memory will this particular application software from Microsoft will eat up? The answer is simple and that is not much. This is because it has been so designed that feature phones can use and access one application at a time and the graphics will not have high resolution as the iPhones or Blackberry.

Amit Mital who leads the team of researchers of Unlimited Potential Group at Microsoft is of the opinion that this software program will not eat up a lot of energy. The underlying reasons behind developing this application are:

First, to tap the growing market potential in the developing countries as people would love to have smarter feature phones since there is a growing market demand for applications for low-end phones.

Second, Microsoft wants the concept of Cloud Computing to take a big leap so that low-end consumers with their handsets would be able to access the cloud computing services of this IT giant. This will enable the company to enhance their market share manifold.

Third, though this OneApp program is designed for the developing countries nonetheless it might get popular with the developed-world consumers when they would find that applications can be used without much usage of data storage and energy.

Next, Microsoft wants to soak their feet in the promotion of mobile wallets and that is using of mobile phones as a purchasing tool. This has led to the tie up of Microsoft with Blue Label Telecom that has become popular for its mobile-wallet concept usage as the company does lot of mobile phone payments.

The launch of OneApp will initially feature a lot of free applications but soon growing entrepreneurs and programmers can generate revenue by developing application for this program and thereby charging for the same.

So, if you cannot owe an iPhone or Blackberry, don’t be worried. Just be happy as Microsoft is here to make your dream come true with OneApp that will transform dumb phones into smartphones.

Ain’t this good… keep checking for more updates on this. Would like to hear your comments as well.

The phone, also known as the Torch 9800, will be available Aug. 12, and cost $199 with a two-year contract with AT&T, which will be the exclusive provider of the Torch.

The device will use RIM’s new Operating System 6, which includes a badly needed re-do of the BlackBerry Web browser, which is painfully slow and frustrating to use.

The new browser is called the Torch Mobile browser. It is based on WebKit, the same engine used by Apple and Google.

The phone, with Wi-Fi, has pinch-to-zoom on the touchscreen, something the iPhone and other devices already feature. It also has a 5-megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, as well as “environment” settings. The camera will name pictures by location.

Rumours, that it is going to be launched soon, meanwhile check this video:

iPhone 4 Antenna Problem

Posted on 04 August 2010 by sadhan

Signal Problem with iPhone 4

First the major event, Apple launching the much awaited iPhone 4 in month of June and then the more dramatic event of the Antenna Signal Problem identified with iPhone 4. Though the problem is not reported against all iPhone 4 sets but We have been hearing a lot about it… lets dig the story to understand better.

iPhone_4_antennaApple accepts the problem as below in their Apple UK site :

Understanding attenuation and signal loss.

The opposite of amplification, attenuation happens whenever a signal is obstructed. All antennas — including television, radio, GPS and mobile phone antennas — can experience attenuation. And with most antennas, the density and composition of the human hand can cause attenuation to a greater degree than some other materials. On a mobile phone, signal loss typically occurs when your hand attenuates the most sensitive part of the antenna. In the photos and videos below, we demonstrate how different grips cause attenuation on many popular smartphones — including iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.1

Now in US, in the wake of Consumer Reports announcing that it would not be recommending the iPhone 4 due to the much-discussed antenna problems, there have been calls for Apple to recall the device.

The obvious question comes, whether Apple is planning to issue a full recall of the iPhone 4 ?

No. The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the company will not do an official recall. That would be expensive and unnecessary. So whats the other solution? While a recall could be damaging to Apple’s reputation, it would also be a costly endeavor, according to some calculations made by Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi. In a research note on Tuesday, Sacconaghi estimated that while “a full product recall of the iPhone 4 (is) highly unlikely,” it would cost Apple $1.5 billion, or 3.5 percent of its total cash on hand.

In the latest press conference video above, Apple CEO Steve Jobs sums it all and mentions about a Bumper Case jacket for the iPhone as a solution to this Antenna problem.

Time for us to watch and think twice before we draw the line on iPhone 4 !

iPhone 4g Coming in June 2010?

Posted on 20 May 2010 by sadhan

iPhone 4G

iphone-4g There is so much buzz and rumours on the next iPhone, i.e. iPhone 4G which people say is slated to get launched in June/July 2010 but we are yet to hear confirmed news on that.

Still with clue of the recently found iPhone in a train, the speculation and analysis of the new set has already created buzz amongst the Apple enthusiasts globally.

We will wait again when Steve Jobs launch it sometime in mid 2010. With the available info around the web, the below could be the feature highlights coming in iPhone 4G, check this with the courtesy of Gizmodo:

What’s new in iPhone 4g

• Front-facing video chat camera
• Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)
• Camera flash
• Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)
• Improved display. It’s unclear if it’s the 960×640 display thrown around before—it certainly looks like it, with the “Connect to iTunes” screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS.
• What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack
• Split buttons for volume
• Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic

What’s changed

• The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more hollow and higher pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound
• An aluminum border going completely around the outside
• Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)
• Everything is more squared off
• 3 grams heavier
• 16% Larger battery
• Internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery

.

Keep waiting for iPhone 4G……
