Social Networking

Social Netwoking

In this era of globalisation and community building in the virtual space, it is the tools of social networking that comes as a much aided service. To know more about, as what it is, where it originated from and how it works just spend some time in reading between lines of this small informal, technical write-up in a lay man’s language.

It was as early as 1954, when the term social network was introduced by J.A Barnes. However the proper meaning of social networking can be best understood if one visits the multiple of sites that are hosted online. They can be popular ones such as MySpace to more common and frequented social networking sites such as Facebook in US, Australia and New Zealand. Do not forget to check on Orkut a very happening social networking site, quite in use with the people of Brazil and India.

If you visited it, you might have got a hang on social networking. Yes, social networking is all about building communities with like-minded individuals with some common interest. Thus this community on the internet, reads, shares discusses and even promote each other’s views for a better cause within the framework of their grouping with the larger world. It is this group that allows interacting for a common purpose towards various aspects. It helps in grouping of friends and with family members, sharing mutual views and thought provoking reviews.

A social networking site is created keeping in mind the basic requirement of an individual i.e. to SOCIALIZE. Man is a social animal, and in today’s hurricane pace of life, to stay connected with the near and dear ones, building opportunities through networking, promoting ideas, creating awareness, sharing a joke, being digitally connected and physically away is made possible through these various social networking sites. The interactive ways used in this virtual community are chats, messaging, voice chat, email, file sharing, group discussions and blogging.

The very first social networking site was classmates.com in 1995 aiming to tie up with the class friends. With its growth on the basis of trust and friends, it took a big leap around 2005 as a component of business internet strategy with Yahoo! 360 launched by Yahoo.

This is one of the most in-expensive ways to stay connected with the latest and the best not only about the people you know but also the people whom you want to know, meet digitally and share ideas in bytes and hertz.

The social networking has caught up in such a way that you can know more as the Social Networking Conference is scheduled to begin in the month of May at Tokyo, Japan to discuss the growth, development and various issues on this online community industry.

Read On!

Celebrate Reading…..

A turtle family decided to go on a picnic. Turtles, being naturallyslow about things, took seven years to prepare for their outing. Finally the turtle family left home looking for a suitable place for their outing. During the second year of their journey they found a place ideal for them at last! For about six months they cleaned up the area, unpacked the picnic basket, and completed the arrangements.
Then they discovered they had forgotten the salt. A picnic without salt would be a disaster, they all agreed. After a lengthy discussion, the youngest turtle was chosen to retrieve the salt from home.
He agreed to go on one condition: That no one would eat until he returned The family consented and the little turtle left. Three years passed and the little turtle had not returned. Five years….six years… then on the seventh year of his absence, the oldest turtle could no longer contain his hunger. He announced that he was going to eat and begun to unwrap a sandwich.
At that point the little turtle suddenly popped out from behind a tree shouting, “SEE I knew you wouldn’t wait. Now I am not going to go get the salt.”

Some of us waste our time waiting for people to live up to our expectations to finally realize that it is better to have done it ourselves than to have waited for someone to complete.

3.  What is the speed of darkness? (absurd)

4.  If the “black box” flight recorder is never damaged during a plane crash, why isn’t the whole airplane made out of that stuff? (very good thinking)

5.  Who copyrighted the copyright symbol? (who knows)

6.  Can you cry under water? (let me try)

7.  Why do people say, “you’ve been working like a dog” when dogs just sit around all day? (I think they meant somethingelse)

8.  Why are the numbers on a calculator and a phone reversed? (God knows)

9.  Do fish ever get thirsty? (Can you ask and tell)

10.  Can you get cornered in a round room? (by ones eyes)

12.  Why do birds not fall out of trees when they sleep? (tonight I will stay and watch)

13.  What came first, the fruit or the color orange? (seed)

14.  If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, then what is baby oil made from? (No comments)

15.  What should one call a male ladybird? (No comments)

16.  If a person suffered from amnesia and then was cured would they remember that they forgot? (can somebody help )

17.  Can you blow a balloon up under water? (yes you can)

18.  Why is it called a “building” when it is already built? (strange isnt it)

19.  If you were traveling at the speed of sound and you turned on your radio would you be able to hear it? (got to think scientifically)

20.  If you’re traveling at the speed of light and you turn your headlights on, what happens? (I dont have a chance to try)

21.  Why is it called a TV set when theres only one? (very nice)

22.  If a person owns a piece of land do they own it all the way down to the core of the earth? (this is nice)

23.  Why do most cars have speedometers that go up to at least 130 when you legally can’t go that fast on any road? (stupid, break the law)

Nokia unleashes N97 to challenge iPhone

nokia-n97The buzz on the mobile industry is the latest N97. The mobile giant Nokia tells people that N97 is the  company’s flagship model. If that’s true, then this little phone weighing not more than 150gms is sure  to be equipped with cutting-edge technology and appealing design. Nokia N97 is the ultimate mobile  computer for young professionals who juggles between work and play with a hungry for more spirit. The look is a blend of many phones ranging from AT&T tilt phone to Google G1phone. But what makes it powerful is the amazing touch screen display with 16:9 aspect ratio, 640×360 pixel resolution and 16 million colors. Real bright and sharp pictures indeed! The phone does not look all that chubby and has the least number of function keys. On the top of the phone, there is the power button and a hole for 3.5mm head phone jack. Its altogether a much enhanced experience than Nokia N96

Internet experience in this Nokia N97 is awesome. You can simply stay connected as it has the ability to support websites including the social networking sites such as Facebook and Hi5 with its in-built web browser. Besides the fully operational web browser software, N97 comes with Nokia maps and a flexible widget system that helps you tailor make your own set of applications with complete ease.

Relationship : make it work for you

Posted on 15 June 2009 by Sadhan

Base of Relationship

TRUST

This is a very important factor for all relationships. When trust is broken, it is the end of the relationship. Lack of trust leads to  suspicion, suspicion generates anger, anger causes enmity and enmity  may result in separation.
A telephone operator told me that one day she received a phone call.  She answered, “Public Utilities Board.” There was silence. She  repeated, “PUB.” There was still no answer. When she was going to  cut off the line, she Heard a lady’s voice, “Oh, so this is PUB. Sorry, I got the number from my Husband’s pocket but I do not know whose Number it is.”
Without mutual trust, just imagine what will happen to the couple if the telephone operator answered with just “hello” instead of “PUB”.

NO POINTING FINGERS

A man asked his father-in-law, “Many people praised you for a successful marriage. Could you please share with me your secret?”

The father-in-law answered in a smile, “Never criticize your wife for her shortcomings or when she does something wrong. Always bear in mind that because of her shortcomings and weaknesses, she could not find a better husband than You.”
We all look forward to being loved and respected. Many people are afraid of losing face. Generally, when a person makes a mistake, he would look around to find a scapegoat to point the finger at. This is the start of a war. We should always remember that when we point one finger at a person, the other four fingers are pointing at ourselves.
If we forgive the others, others will ignore our mistake too.

CREATING PERFECT RELATIONSHIPS ?

A person visited the government matchmaker for marriage, SDU, and requested “I am looking for a spouse. Please help me to find a suitable one.” The SDU officer said, “Your requirements, please.” “Oh, good looking, polite, humorous , sporty, knowledgeable, good in singing and dancing. Willing to accompany me the whole day at home during my
Leisure hour, if I don’t go out. Telling me interesting stories when I need companion for conversation and be silent when I want to rest.” The officer listened carefully and replied, “I understand you need television.”

There is a saying that a perfect match can only be found between a blind wife and a deaf husband , because the blind wife cannot see the faults of the husband and the deaf husband cannot hear the nagging of the wife. Many couples are blind and deaf at the courting stage and dream of perpetual perfect relationship. Unfortunately, when the excitement of love wears off, they wake up and discover that marriage is not a bed of roses. The nightmare begins.

NO OVERPOWERING

Many relationships fail because one party tries to overpower another,or demands too much. People in love tend to think that love will conquer all and their spouses will change the bad habits after marriage. Actually, this is not the case. There is a Chinese saying which carries the meaning that “It is easier to reshape a mountain or a river than a person’s character.”
It is not easy to change. Thus, having high expectation on changing the spouse character will cause disappointment and unpleasantness.
It would be less painful to change ourselves and lower our expectations.

RIGHT SPEECH

There is a Chinese saying which carries the meaning that “A speech will either prosper or ruin a nation.” Many relationships break off because of wrong speech. When a couple is too close with each other,we always forget mutual respect and courtesy. We may say anything without considering if it would hurt the other party.
A friend and her millionaire husband visited their construction site. A worker who wore a helmet saw her and shouted,”Hi, Emily! Remember me? We used to date in the secondary school.” On the way home, her millionaire husband teased her, “Luckily you married me.Otherwise you will be the wife of a construction worker.” She answered ,”You should appreciate that you married me. Otherwise, he will be the millionaire and not you.”
Frequently exchanging these remarks plants the seed for a bad relationship. It’s like a broken egg – cannot be reversed.

PERSONAL PERCEPTION

Different people have different perception. One man’s meat could be another man’s poison. A couple bought a donkey from the market. On the way home,a boy commented, “Very stupid. Why neither of them ride on the donkey?”Upon hearing that, the husband let the wife ride on the donkey. He walked besides them. Later, an old man saw it and commented, “The husband is the head of family. How can the wife ride on the donkey while the husband is on foot?” Hearing this, the wife quickly got down and let the husband ride on the donkey.
Further on the way home, they met an old Lady. She commented, “How can the man ride on the donkey but let the wife walk. He is no gentleman.”

The husband thus quickly asked the wife to join him on the donkey. Then, they met a young man. He commented, “Poor donkey, how can you hold up the weight of two persons. They are cruel to you.” Hearing that, the husband and wife immediately climbed down from the donkey and carried it on their shoulders.
It seems to be the only choice left. Later, on a narrow bridge, the donkey was frightened and struggled. They lost their balance and fell into the river. You can never have everyone praise you, nor will everyone condemn you. Never in the past, not at present, and never will be in the future.
Thus, do not be too bothered by others words if our conscience is clear.

BE PATIENT

This is a true story which happened in the States. A man came out of his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was happily hammering dents into the shiny paint of the truck. The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy’s hands into pulp as punishment. When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital.

Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to amputate the fingers from both the boy’s hands. When the boy woke up from the surgery & saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, ” Daddy,I’m sorry about your truck.” Then he asked, “but when are my fingers going to grow back?” The father went home & committed suicide.
Think about this story the next time someone steps on your feet or u wish to take revenge. Think first before u lose your patience with someone u love. Trucks can be repaired.. Broken bones & hurt feelings often can’t. Too often we fail to recognize the difference between the person and the performance. We forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge.

People make mistakes. We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will haunt us forever.

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)

Posted on 11 June 2009 by Sadhan

Service Oriented Architecture or SOA can be explained as a collection of many services in a network which communicate with each other and this involves data exchange with service coordination and SOA is used for the development of loosely coupled distributed applications. Though earlier the concept of SOA was based on DCOM or Object Request Brokers (ORBs) but nowadays SOA is based predominantly on Web Services.

SOA is also a flexible and standardized architecture which focuses business-centric approach that supports integrating business as repeatable tasks or linked services to design and develop flexible IT solutions which enable business process components to be orchestrated and assembled in a more efficient manner to deliver distinctive business capabilities and services for high performance. It unifies business processes by structuring large applications as an ad-hoc collection of smaller modules called services. Here it’s worth explaining the term Service. A service is nothing but a function or some processing logic or business processing that is well-defined, self-contained, and does not depend on the context or state of other services. Example of Services are Loan Processing Services, booking a flight ticket online etc which can be self-contained unit for process the Loan  Applications or could be Weather Services, which can be used to get the weather information. Any application on the network can use the service of the Weather Service to get the weather information and SOAs build applications out of such services.

Instead of services embedding calls to each other in their source code, there are protocols defined which describe how one or more services can talk to each other. This architecture then relies on a business process expert to link and sequence services, in a process known as orchestration, to meet a new or existing business system requirement. XML is used extensively in SOA to create data which is wrapped in a nearly exhaustive description container. In the communication process with services data exchange are typically described by WSDL, and communications protocols by SOAP, discovery and publishing by UDDI and data representation by XML. In a SOA environment independent services can be accessed without knowledge of their underlying platform implementation.

Interoperability between different systems and programming languages is the key for integration between applications on different platforms through a communication protocol. One example of such communication is based on the concept of messages. Each SOA building block can play one or more of the three main roles of Service Requester, Service Broker and Service Provider. Interoperability, Compliance to standards (both common and industry-specific), reusability, modularity, composability, componentization, Services identification and categorization and monitoring and tracking are some of the guiding principles which forms the ground rules for development, usage and maintenance of SOA.

The deployment of a SOA requires the conversion of existing systems into services. The tasks involved in achieving this can be repeated for each system and a common set of components may be needed to provide additional functionality (such as security and auditing). An Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) helps in converting existing systems into services. This ESB generally provides an abstraction layer on top of an implementation of an enterprise messaging system, which allows integration architects to exploit the value of messaging without writing code. Using ESB, an application can communicate via the bus, which acts as a message broker between applications. The primary advantage of such an approach is that it reduces the number of point-to-point connections required to allow applications to communicate.

With the increasing demand for SOA and with the increasing momentum of Web 2.0 which is called “second generation” of web sites, together they can add lot of value in enterprise computing in the coming years as Gartner predicted the SOA business with grow to $50 billion in next 5 years. Web 2.0 will leverage the next generation sites with collaboration and sharing in terms of Social Networking as part of Semantic Web. Hence, Web 2.0 applications will extensively use Web services and may include Ajax, Flash, or JavaFX user interfaces, Web syndication, blogs, and wikis. With increasing demands businesses use SOA and Web 2.0 to reach new markets, with improved efficiency, in a faster time to market, with lower TCO and other advantages. I will keep you posted with the changes in and around SOA in the coming days.
